About the Artist Yvonne Thornton
I grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa and really had the best of small town living with the advantage of living in a college town where there was an abundance of opportunity. One of the things that was special when growing up was Saturday afternoon painting with my dad. He never had any formal instruction so we would find pictures and paint together. I went on to become a nurse at Sioux Valley/Sanford and to have a family and was too busy to paint until a friend from church inspired me to start again. Once dad retired and my kids were in school we painted together again as a way to spend time together. I continue to work full time at Sanford as a nurse and paint in my spare time.
I enjoy painting things with special memories attached or scenery that catches my attention. I am always learning more about painting and am constantly growing in my ability to interpret what I see and know into something I can put onto the canvas. God is the best artist and it is a privilege to capture some of that beauty and deep meaning and bless people with a painting of what is important to them.
