Tatanka Dominion

We drove through Custer State Park in western SD this summer and the buffalo herd was moving from one side of the road to the other.  They walked right in front of our car and it was powerful seeing them up close.  One of the cloud formations we saw that day made me think about putting a buffalo calf in the clouds since the white buffalo is sacred.

This painting will be on display at the Center for Western Studies on the Augustana College campus from April 1-August 16, 2024.  30 x 40″ on stretched canvas, framed

Ukraine Flag Landscape

I painted this as the war was breaking out over Ukraine. I wanted to convey the feeling of an impending storm and the destruction that comes with a big storm.  The wheat field looks ripe for harvest and a storm would ruin this years crop.  So much is ruined by war that cannot be replaced.  So much grief and sadness over the effects of evil in this world.

I used the colors of the Ukraine flag and multiple photos of a storm over a wheat field as a basis for it.

Praying for Ukraine 🇺🇦 as they live under the shadow of the storm. 24 x 36 palette knife oil painting.
